Hydroelectricity is a clean, renewable (the water is not consumed and can be used for other purposes) source of energy that does not result in air pollution, chemical runoff, or toxic waste, and is therefore beneficial to the environment.  The Hoover Dam generators produce in excess of 2,000 megawatts.
